Being an Adult

I have lots of things to get done, or start, or finishes. I'm in between a lot of things right now and my summer is just about ready to start, so all I can think about or want to do is stuff that involves camp.

That's right this chick works at a camp in the summer with kids, but not just any camp an arts camp. I'm the head of Technical Theatre, and love doing what I do. I leave for camp in exactly 3 weeks and I have a ton of things to prepare and a ton of things to finish before I move to Jersey for 9 weeks. (That's also right I will be spending my summer in the swampland of South Jersey.)

First off I must sew, sew, sew some of it is things for myself I have in the workings, but most of it is tote bags that I've planed to make for my etsy shop. I also must finish one of my three knitting projects that are hanging about the living room. It would be ideal to finish two, but that might be asking a lot of myself right now.

Then there is all the real world stuff that isn't fun at all. Student loans, rent, credit card payments. Poo on all of that. So today I am going to be half a responsible adult and laze around the other half. Maybe go knit in public just to get myself up of our couch and seated on a couch in a cozy hip coffee shop. Of course this will be after I call about my loan and after I sew something. See I'm being an adult!

Back From the Long Weekend

Sorry I haven't been around. I worked most of the weekend, and had my usual Monday off. This Monday though was a very special Monday. Yes it was Memorial Day, but it was also the day of my first surf of the summer season! And boy was it a good surf. The water was a warm 58F (thank goodness for my brand new wet suit) and while the waves were only about a yard they pack some punch and I caught some great waves. I was also teaching my friend Luke to surf and he did well, and almost had it but our board was a little too short for him it being 7'2".

Sadly I have not made my duct tape dress form, but do not fear I hope that sometime this week it will matrialize.

So now I must be of to work so I leave you with a link to another treasury that I'm featured it! Check it out.

Weird Week

I must say that this week has been a bit odd. I have been working, but I have what feels like a lot of down time, that I have no been productive with. I haven't sewn one thing this week and I have today off and all of next week off from babysitting. This is in part from designing "Footloose", which is what I'm going to blame this weirdness on.

Today will be crazy as I have a ton of stuff I want to get done, as well as actually sew something new. I have to do the usual things like pick up groceries so our cupboards aren't bare. I also need to start getting my camp stuff together. I need to email my staff and finish the equiptment list for Cori as well as map out the new cirriculum for the summer. Sometime today I must get to a hardwear store as I need duct tape so I can finally make myself a ghetto dress form. (I attempted to make a dress from only my measurements and no pattern and the results were dissastorous.) On top of all of this I must start cleaning and sorting through my winter and summer clothes and figure out what to donate what to keep and what to put in storage. I have to start packing for camp in about two weeks time.

After all of this is done I can then maybe sit down and sew something. Simon is working today, but might be done around lunch. I'm hoping he is done at lunch time so he can assist in the days errends. As well as cutting my out of a duct tape cocoon. By the way here is the link to what I'm talking about. Duct Tape Dress Form

Well I'm off to start my jam packed day! (hopfully there will be silly pics of me stuck in tape!)

Vintage: The Beach

Thought I'd mix it up and find some vintage items that are beach inspired. I am gearing up for my first trip to the shore in a few days and can't wait hopefully the water temp will be in the high 50's so I won't freeze too much. Also I was inspired by this treasury I'm in, it's called "Beach", check it out.

Weekly Plans

I have work today and then more work and then I get to go home and relax with Simon. I'm at the day job first and then I'm suppose to go and see a rehearsal of Footloose till 9:30. Either way after today I have three blissful days of only babysitting in the pm. So that means I will be sewing away. Righ now I have pieces for a dress scattered across our dinning room floor. It's cut from a men's dress shirt. I hop it comes out well as this is my first clothing project sans pattern.

I will also be sewing more bags of course and listing them soon. I had a good couple of days at the thrift store. Made some great t-shirt finds and found a vintage teal rain jacket for myself for only a dollar. It even has whales on the inner lining! Now I won't have to wear Simon's any more.

I do however have to work the weekend, but that's alright as on Monday we are spending the day on the beach. Hopefully it will also be my first surf of the year. Chilly, but still the first of the season.

New Laptop!!!

My seven year old laptop finally called it quits this weekend. I was sad to see it go, but I did get to go out and buy a new shiny laptop. It's so fast and I want to play on it and not do anything else.

I haven't checked my email all weekend and while making the rounds through my three different emails I found out that my "Surf or Die" tote is in a treasury. Check it out!

Now that I have my new shiny computer I will catch up with the blogging and my etsy shop.

Unproductive

So last week I was super productive and this week I seem to not be. I have been really good about checking my email and updating this here blog and my fan page. I found some great teal and gray vintage fabric from the 80's at the thrift store. It's amazing. I even designed a new bag and then in the process of sewing it realized I would need zippers and have been at a stand still since. Since I have nothing new to post and no new product, I feel as though I have been unproductive.

Also I am designing a teen production of Footloose and well that has eaten up two afternoons and evenings I could of been sewing. I do love to design and will have fun with this show. The director, I have difficulties with. She has given me creative license with the show, but what bothers me is that all her and her staff do is yell at these kids. They get no encouraging words, no advice or direction, and are told to "shut up" two words I hate to hear used. The kids shut down and the director and her assistants are loosing the kids. It's sad, because I don't blame the kids and a lot of these kids have a ton of talent. Oh well all I can do is do my job well and tell the cast they are working hard and doing well.

Enough of that. I started a new Clapotis, only this time it has lace in it and is made with a bamboo silk blend. I will take some pics soon.

Pounce: Boy Stuff

This post is inspired by my boyfriend Simon. I was browsing on pounce and have brought you sellers that all have "guy stuff" as Simon would put it.

Finders Keepers,

Art work by Amy Burkhart, features screen printed tees that are interesting and worthy of being in any guys closet.

Planet Chey Photographic Gallery

Cheyenne L Rouse's photography is beautiful and rugged. Not only does she have beautiful beach landscapes, but her photo's of the south west are wonderful and really capture the feel of the area.

Golden Mustard

Fun art print postcards all featuring the open road.

Twiddletoes
He may not be a ninja, but he might want to war his flip flops all year round.

Vintage Days!

Again I must wax over my love of dresses. These ones below are for being out and about in the sun. When putting together an outfit seems like too much work I throw on a sun dress and flip flops and call it done. Also It helps when you find a great deal on a great dress all of the items chosen below are $30 or less!

New Listing

Ok so I did do something today...

New listing at bluebettyshop

Unmotivated

That's how I feel today, unmotivated. I have somethings I could be doing, but all I really want to do is sit on my couch and knit. Pathetic, I'm going to blame it on the weather. It's cool, windy and overcast, feels like rain...again, wasn't ten days striaght enough.

I think all my motivation for today was used up when I went for a run about a half an hour ago. At least i can say, "well I went for a run today, so sitting around for the rst of the day is fine." I also hung out with Antea this morning, so I've had actual human contact today.

Let's be honest I'm just complaining and the minuet I post this I will get off my butt, get the singer out, grab the iron, and my scissors and start sewing. At least that's what I hope will happen.

New at Blue Betty

I just listed new one of a kind items in my etsy shop.

The first is the Summer Camp OOAK Recycled Tee Tote

And the other in the Lets Jam OOAK Recycled Tee ToteI feel that I've been very productive this week, mostly in the admin area. I've blogged like crazy, took photos, edited said photos, and listed items, as well as work on my facebook fan page which you can view here. Now I just need to get sewing! I've made five bags so far, admittedly one of them was for me.

Things are going to start getting busy as I have been hired to design a musical for the end of the month, but I like the idea of being busy. I also applied for a LD and ME position at a small theatre company for their 2009/2010 season. It's crazy, but I am really starting to feel good about my desicion to move to Philly. I mean I love the city, but I'm starting to get more work as a designer and and electrician, so I love the city even more.

This seller has a wonderful mix of Victorian and Steam Punk. I love the gears, there is something mysterious and whimsical about these pieces. Very interesting and different.

Piacere
I love the Metamorphic disc earings.

This seller's items are simple and classic. They are a bit pricey, but are beautiful and well designed. There are some wonderful sets (like the bridal earing and pendant set) as well as some impressive show pieces (like seascape at sunrise)

Sewing Elf

I have been a busy elf.

Vintage

I love dresses, I use to hate them when I was growing up, but now I must admit I own two LBD and about 7 or 8 more formal and not so formal dresses. I went trolling in etsy's vintage sellers today to look for another great dress.

Weekly Plans

I have been super busy these past three days. Well Saturday and Sunday were spent working and Monday was kind of a day off. I went to brunch with Antea and then we went pattern and fabric shopping. I bought some great sersucker to make a dress with, and I also bought some sale fabric to sew more linings with. I'll take some pics when I have more time. Then when we got back from Jersey I had to go to work in Old City, a light focus which took half the time we were alloted for it and we had 6 people at the call a bit over kill, but I still get paid.

It looks like I will be designing a show this month. I'm excited, but a little worried as I have no idea what is going on and they want to tech on the 16th. I will have to work fast on this one, but it should be a fun show to do. Who doesn't love Footlose.

The weather has been crappy all weekend and looks like it will be that way all week. I really need to get out and take some photos of my new stuff. I can whip out this new bag design in about an hour or two it's pretty awesome. I plan to be sewing more this week. Tomorrow looks goo for sewing and it's not suppose to rain till later, so maybe a photo or two.

My goals for my etsy shop this week are:
*to sew at least one more bag
*take photos
*list at least one new item

All while working my day job, designing a musical, and starting a major spring clean in the apartment.

Just a quick word

I am at home right now for all of 30 min before i have to run out into the never ending rain and go to a light focus in Old City. Today has been busy, which is nice, but I have gotten nothing on my to do list today except sitting down right now and typing a few lines.

I might be designing a musical at the end of the month too, which would be great and a lot of fun, but I would have to push back going home to see the family till later, or earlier, or i don't even know at this point.

Well I must be off to shovel for food in my mouth and make some coffee.

Happy May Day!

Happy May Day!
Here is a stack of t-shirts just waiting to become one of a kind recycled bags. I have been frequenting thrift stores in the neighborhood it find a good selections of colors and prints. Now its time to go fabric shopping. I did find about three yards of a gray herringbone canvas at the thrift store that I just couldn't pass up.

I have been sewing like crazy so I'm sure this pile will be depleted soon. I did take the time this morning to list a new in my esty shop. Check it out.
