Knitting Update

I have been knitting, crocheting and spinning my fingers to the bone.  Ok, maybe not to the bone, but I have been working on a lot of new projects.  Some are for designs and some are personal projects.  Here's what's on my needles, hook and bobbin this month.

I'm working on my first ever lace design.  This is just a sample I'm knitting to make sure it's going to work out the way I want before I start knitting it with the yarn I have intended for the design.  The lace pattern is hard to see, but that's because it will need to be blocked aggressively.

Here's a close up of the main lace stitch.

I have completed my last Spring pattern for my shop.  Here's a super early, super sneaky peek.  I know it's just the button band, but what a button band it is.  I just finished typing up and formatting the pattern now I just need to shoot some photos and proof the written pattern.  I'm planing to release the new pattern on May 21st.

I also am crocheting a doily blanket.  I've wanted to do this for such a long time that I finally gave in and just bought the yarn and picked a pattern off of Ravelry.  It's called the Double Pineapple Doily and I am in love.

The yarn is Elle Rae's classic Heathers.  Its the same color as the walls in our living room.  It will look lovely on our sandy colored couch.

I finally finished spinning my Loop Batt, now it's time to chain ply!

That's all that's new in the fiber world right now.  Tomorrow I am having a guest blogger with a super awesome tutorial, but you'll have to check back tomorrow to see who it is.

Fiber Friday: Stormy Day

It's been rainy lately.  Your typical April weather with a bit of a cold snap.  Good weather for staying inside and knitting.  I like a good rainy day once in awhile an d I love a good hank of yarn any day of the week.  Using the weather as my inspiration I have found some amazing yarn on Etsy.

Fiber Friday: Socktastic!

I love sock yarn and I'm not even a sock knitter.  I have hank after hank of sock yarn in my stash just wait to be knit into a cozy pair to warm mine or a loved ones feet, or to be knit up into something else warm the options are endless.  What does everyone need in their stash...a few great hanks of sock yarn either for socks, shawls or mits.  These hanks are all from independent dyers on etsy.

Spinning and Spindles

I fixed my spoke spindle the other night with the help from some super glue. I have been super lazy about fixing this thing. I dropped it on a tiled floor about a year and a half ago and the whorl broke of from it's spokes. I finally pulled it out of storage and glued it back together. I forgot how much I love this spindle. I'm down to my last bit of fiber that I have not that I should call it a bit it is 4oz.
As I was pre-drafting I found this inside the roving I was using a white heart. This was left during the dying process when the dye didn't get soaked all the way to the middle. I like to think that this is a happy accident and that this soon to be yarn is spun with lots of love.

P.S. I added some more Alpaca Silk to my Etsy.

Fiber Friday: Hand Painted

I always find hand painted yarns very interesting, how someone painted dye on instead of kettle dying or just giving it a general dip dye. The look of hand painted yarn is special and it makes for interesting garments. Do certain colors pool, are there so many colors there's no chance of pooling, what if i cast on 20 stitches instead of 30 how will it effect the color pattern, how will certain stitch patterns look. These are all the exciting questions that run though my mind when I pick up a hank of hand painted yarn.

Fiber Friday: Luxury

I love luxury yarn. It's so yummy and soft. Who wouldn't love something knit up in cashmere or silk, or alpaca, or even a blend of these. In honor of my first knitting pattern, which will be in my etsy shop on Wed. the 7th , here are some delicious luxury yarns.

Fiber Friday: Atutumnal Color

My last post was in hope for crisp temps, so this on is in honor of fall foliage. I think fall may be my favorite time of year, the waves at the shore are better than the summer, I can wear me extensive sweater collection and it is the perfect season for backing and drinking apple cider. Being a fall baby I always look forward to the turning of the leaves, it's a sign that i am soon to be a year older, and I love the color it imparts on my birthday. This is why this weeks Fiber Friday is full of autumnal color palates.
