Rainy Day

It rain most of today, but I did get to the Fabric store I love. Spool is this great fabric store in Philly. They have a great selection of cotton prints and a beautiful work room with great sewing machines in the back. This is where I went to sew before I got my machine. I always find something that I want when I'm there.

Right Next door to Spool is Loop it's sister store. Loop is a lovely yarn store with beautiful silks and wools. I couls spend hours and a whole months paycheck in there.

I only went to spool today and wanted to buy everything, but I only went to find some fabric to line a bag I'm working on for me. I found this great print of pink lotus blossoms and green leaves, it's Amy Butler, her stuff is amazing.

I've listed new Bags in my etsy store take a peek.

Day Off Snow Day

Yesterday was my day off and I slept for most of it. I was so tired, I guess that's what happens when you work 9am to 10:30pm and use coffee to keep you going. Simon had a snow day so when I did finallydid wake up we went to breakfast or brunch and spent the day together.

I must admit though I like sitting in the cat walks and watching the show come together, and when I get tired of that I knit. I knit a lot durring techs as I have a lot of time where I'm not needed, but need to be in the cats waiting. The great thing about this, other than it's what I love doing, I have been able to get two hats done and hope to get a third done in the next two days. I also need to go pick up some Banana Silk, today may be the only day I will be able to do that for a the week.

Things are starting to come together, and I've applied for some small shows.

Today I am off to the theatre, the show is absolutly adorable. The costumes are great and the set is really neat. I can't wait to see an audience full of kids see the show.

Home is Where the Heart Is

Home, I love my apartment. I say this only because last night I stayed over to watch the boys I nanny as dad is on a bussiness trip. I like staying at my parents place when I visit, and Camp in the summer is my second home, but other than that I love my apartment.

This said I don't stay in my apartment and never go out. Although when it's cold out I would much rather stay in and cook and bake and of course knit. I sometimes think I am overly domestic. Simon does do the dishes and the laundry as those are two thinks I hate doing.

I start at a theatre gig in a few days, I can't wait. Techs are a lot of hurry up and do nothing, so I should be able to get a good chunk of my knitting for the spring done. I have a little over a month ot get my items made and photographed. My deadline for release is fast approaching, March 27th, but I should have lots of down time here and there up in the cat walks and in the green room. Perfect for knitting!

Lady of Leisure

I am a lady of leisure today. It is a day off for me. I slept in to almost noon, watched the end of Pride and Prejudice, knit on my lace (which is huge!) and now I'm going to actually do some errends and work.

Tonight Simon and I are going to a brithday party at our favorite watering hole the Nodding Head.

I designed a new scarf and my replace the knit mesh scarf with the on I just made. The new one is easier to create and way more interesting than the first one. I haven't started on my scarves so it will be easy to replace the old ones with the new design.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr

It is cold! Really cold! Monday was so warm and beautiful and the last few days have been the total oppisit.

I haven't been too productive with my spring items, only having knit one hat.
My release date has been set and I'll be announcing when that is soon. I just need to get all my ducks in a row.

Snow Day!

It is a snow day today! That meaning I did not have to babysit at noon and have been able to get some more sewing done today. This is great as I want to finish my initial stock of bags by the first of February. This puts me at almost a month ahead of scheadule. It also gives me more time to work on my knit items.

The knit items are a whole different ball game. I have the bamboo yarn I need to knit the tams, but I still need to order my banana silk for the scarves. Hoefully I'll be able to put in an order after February 10th. I'm designing lights for a small production of one acts and am getting a small stipen, but It will be enough for my initial order of banana silk. I'm starting to worry thought I must admit. What if nothing moves once I release my spring and summer items? I truly believe tha I'll do well, but in the back of my mind there is this tiny voice saying "what if!" "what if!".

I try not to listen to much, but I am taking it slow and only making a few items. Enought to have a stock, but not to many that they will be siting around my work space.

Fabric!

I got up to the fabric store today and look what I got!

I also got a package today filled with all my bamboo yarn I orderd. Now all I have to do is save some of my money to get the banana silk I need and then I'll have all my supplise for my spring/summer items. Yippy!

Hats!

Here are my hat designs for my spring/summer line. I only have two of the three colors , as I changed my mind recently on the third color.

I'm keeping the blue one for myself, but I did order more of this color yarn.

The hat is knit up in Fish Tail Lace, which is of course my favorite. It's a bit slouchy, but not giant. I like the look of a tam, except when it hangs down longer than my hair.

The third color was this organgy red, but I'm swiching it to a more berry color. The orange didn't seem to fit in as well as I had hoped.

Today is a day off for me, so Simon is taking me to buy my Sewing machine! I'm super excited.

DIY Bussiness

Good Morning, ok good afternoon. I slepted in as I don't have to work till 4pm today, and it's only baby sitting.

I have met all my deadlines for this week, and I feel like I need something to do. I have lot to do, but I'm done making samples. Now it's a lot of paper work and budgeting and editing photos and all that Jazz. I find this fun in an odd way, but I really want to make my items. I can't do this till i make a budget and decide where i'm getting my supplise from.

Oh, I will be able to set up a wholesale account with the supplier of the Bannan Silk I want to use, but I need to save a bit of money for the minimum order, which is actually not that bad. I figure $150 is easy for a minimum order compared to $300 to $500.

Well I'm off to edit some photos and order some prints. I want to apply for some craft festivales and need a look book. I want to make this as nice as I can on a low budget, so I'm going to try to do a lot of things on my own, at least as many as I can.

TaDa!

TaDa! Finished, or almost finished bag! I took these yesterday before I went to Spool to finish them. What do you think? I really love this fabric. I'm going to use the other colors of it too.

This one is a little softer and more femme, but I love the colors and the illustrations.

Both bags are the same size and are squared on the bottom. I must admitt I was really excited when i figured out how to do that with out sewing a gusset down the side. Only haveing to sew two three inch seams is much better than sewing six extra.

Batteries

I finally got new batteries for my camera, actually Simon got me new batteries for my camera, but that means I was able to take some pics of my spring stuff.

Here is the fabric I choose. It's is so perfect. I love it .

They both come in other colors, so I might get some in the fushia and the orange, both will match the bamboo and the banana silk I plan to use.

Today is my day off and I must try to make it a productive one.

Spring line and Deadlines

Yesterday was my day off and I had a great day. Breakfast with friends, roaming Philly with friends, Dinner in NJ with friends. It was great to see everyone. I must admitt though that i didn't get much done. I went to the fabric shop which was closed for inventory. That was the one thing I really want to get done as my proto-type deadline is in less than a week and my fabric deadline is well tomorrow. So, tomorrow it's off to the fabric shop with me. Simon and I are going to run errends together. I'm going to the fabric shop and while I'm there he will be at the music store buying gutar strings and playing guitars.

I will post my fabric choices and some of my bamboo work soon!

Day Off!

Tomorrow is a my first day off in seven days! I can't wait. I have a huge todo list, or a fun stuff list. First thing first I'm going to breakfast with a few friends to one of my favorite places in Philly, which is Morning Glory. I might have pancakes, or a breakfast sandwich, or a fritata, I think i need to go find a snack.

Then after breakfast it's of to Spool up on 19th and South st. My fabric deadline for the spring is coming up fast and I need to go look at some fabric and get some ideas, and maybe buy some.

After that i have a few random things todo, along with a production meeting at 5:30pm for the show I'm designing. It's going to be a day full of fun things for me to get done. I love my day off, I wish I had more of them.

Bananans

Like I said, I've been working on my spring line and here is the first item that will make the cut. This is a mesh knit banana silk scarf. I have two , and i'm keeping the blue one!
I haven't set a date for the release of my spring line yet. I felt that April was too late, but I'm not sure if I will be ready by March. I think I'm going to try mid March. That gives me time to order my supplise and get a small stock together.

With these scarves I may knit them in two solid colors and one varrigated. I haven't totally decided. Now I have to wait for my yarn samples to arrive to press on.

December's Aftermath

I'm so tired. I felt like I ran a marathon yesterday.
Today I slept in and I did get to go to the yarn shop in the town over from mine. I bought some more teal silk and some yellow and orange wool for a scarf. I've been trying to break out of my blue green circle, but I love that color family so much. I though a bright rock melon orange would look nice and go with most of my teal items in my closet.

I'd love to post some pics of my new yarn or even a gift or two that I got, but sadly that will have to wait till I am back in my apartment in the city of brotherly love. I also got two proto-types finished for Blue Betty's spring line. It's a lace mesh scarf knit up in banana silk, and I ordered samples of the bamboo I want to use in the colors I'm interested in. Over all I felt that I've been decently productive this month, but I need to get my butt in gear. I want all my proto-types done in January. Time to get my butt in gear.

Not to spread myself too thin I also got a lighting design gig for a production of one acts in Febuary. I figured that the small chunk of change that i make doing that i can split between my savings and Blue Betty and order supplise for the spring line.

Tomorrow Simon and I are on the road to Philly. I'm working all week Sunday to Sunday, at least my pay check will look nice this week.
