Summer Adventures: Boston

I recently spent a long weekend in Boston with this lovely lady, my good friend Jules.  The hubs had to work and Jules boyfriend Norwood is currently going to grad school so we had a yummy food, good company, boozy girls weekend.

Jules was making margaritas.  When you make margaritas in Boston you use a large knife.  Our Ice had melted together into one solid brick.

We even chased down the ice cream truck.  This was a first for me.  My town didn't have an ice cream man and if we did he wouldn't have driven down my creepy dead end road in the woods.

There was s'mores making.  Although we had a lot of trouble getting the fire going.

But once we did I made this beauty of a s'more.

The hydrangeas were blossoming.  I couldn't help myself I started taking artsy shots of them.

I also got to hang out with the coolest kitty around, Linus.

It was a great four days and I always wish I had taken more pictures.

Summer Adventures: 4th of July

This Independence Day was my first in 6 years that wasn't spent at camp, and I must say I had a great time.  We spent the whole afternoon at FDR park, cooking and eating and drinking beers.  Then it was off to North Philly to watch the fire works.  Here's a sampling of photos from the day.

We cooked some traditional and non traditional bbq meats.  (Traditional hot dogs and burgers, Non traditional gator ribs and caribou.)

This dude was just strolling through the park dresses as an American Flag.

Even our Jello shots were patriotic.

The Night Market

Last Thursday the Food Trust here in Philly held the second Night Market of the summer.  I have been dying to go to one of these events, but there is always some reason I can't get to one.  There was no excuse this time as the Night Market was being held in my neighborhood.  It was an amazing experience and I wish the Italian Market did this on their own once a month during the warmer months.  There was 60 food trucks and food vendors along with a small crafts section of local artist, and live music.  It was a great night.

P.S If you haven't entered the Alchemy Hour Giveaway you should!

A Photo an Hour: Last Friday

I'll admit I am a huge geek and went to see the midnight showing of the The Hunger Games.  Lucky for me I had the next day off so being out on the town till 3am wasn't a big deal.  Simon also has Fridays off and it was in the 70's so I decided to document my day.  Here is my first ever photo an hour.

10:00 AM

I actually got out of bed and pulled on my sneaks and went to the gym.  I mean I do this most days, but after being out late I was surprised I didn't turn my alarm off and go back to sleep for a few more hours.

11:00 AM

Home from the gym and time for some breakie.  Vegemite toast and coffee the breakfast of Aussie champions.  Of course I drank my coffee in one of my favorite Jane Austin themed mugs from Brookish.

12:00 PM

Blog time!  It may have been a day off from work, but it wasn't a day off from blogging,  My little helper likes to hang out and watch me type.

1:00 PM

Time to get dressed and get out of the apartment on such a beautiful day.

2:00 PM

The Hubs and I biked down to Ikea and Home depot.  I'll let you guess which bike is whose.

3:00 PM

Did I mention we went to Ikea.  We were there for awhile, but we actually only got the thing we went in for which I think is near impossible on most trips.

4:00 PM

Then we biked over to Home Depot and I got some more supplies for my window boxes and I bought a tomato plant.

5:00 PM

Finally back at the apartment only to leave to go to Whole Foods to pick up some fixings for dinner.  It was such a nice day.  I took this shot on my way to the store.

6:00 PM

Home from the store.  I put the groceries away.  I bought an avocado, Simon hates them but I love them.  That means more avocado for me.

7:00 PM

Making dinner.  I made these almost meatless burgers from one of my favorite cook books, Almost Meatless.  You make the burgers with 8 oz dry bulgar wheat, 16 oz black beans, and 8oz ground beef.  They are super yummy.

8:00 PM

A glass of Rooster Hill 2010 Chard with dinner.  I was trying to class it up.

9:00 PM

Finally getting some knitting done.  I was and still am working on the Variation Scarf from Interweave's Jane Austen Knits publication.  Um...have I mentioned I love Jane Austen.

10:00 PM

Watching Money Ball with Simon, Our living room is tiny just like our TV.

11:00 PM

Our nightly ritual, sleepy time tea, oranges and chocolate.  Then to bed.  I know 11pm on a Friday night, but after a late night the night before and a super long bike ride around the city we were done.

Weekend In Photos

Here's what I did over the weekend.

Friday night, date night, we had dinner at Sabrina's and they had the best chalk board art ever!

Taught on Saturday, look at what my amazing students made.  I love that they all used the same hat pattern and then customized it to fit there own style.

Later that night we went ice skating with our friends Mike and Jo on the River Rink in Center City.

I really want to drive the Zamboni.  I'm sure it's not that exciting, but what they do is so cool.

Neither or us fell down!

The Shore In November

What we did this weekend:
We played a lot of music.

Flew a cat kite and took the pup to the beach. It was very windy and not at all warm by the water.  But it was a beautiful sunny day.

I broke a bunch of photography rules.  The sun in the pic, my finger covering part of the lens and my hair was blown into the shot, but for all its mistakes I really like this shot of AC.

Still flying a kite and walking the dog.  The moon came out to watch.

We were there to celebrate my friend Mike's 30th Birthday.  We made sure to get him a fancy cake for the event.

Blurry, but everyone wanted in on some accordion action.

Me-Made-June '11 Update

MMJune '11 started while my computer was in for repairs, but I have started and have some photo updates on how it is going. I know it's only been two days, but I am very excited about this challenge.

Day 1

Day one was the hottest day we had had in the city this spring...summer, I'm not sure what season it is. I apologize for the sweatiness, but it was 95 and really humid, and we don't have air conditioning.

What I wore.
Top: Altered T-shirt into tank, I call it my cowboy tank.
Bottoms: Jean shorts altered from jeans, these are my go to shorts.

Day 2

The heat wave had finally broken!! I decided to celebrate by wearing a hand knit garment.
Top: Heat wave top, hand knit with love and a cotton modal blend
Bottoms: My go to shorts. I<3 them.

There you have it the first two days of MMJune '11. Over on "So...Zoe, What do you know she has posted an inventory of her me made items and aims for the month. I decided to do something similar. I love lists and lists of things are one of my favorites to make.

My Me Made Items.
*3 nice dresses (floral, Yellow seersucker, blue coffee date)
*1 cocktail tent dress with ruffle
*1 purple sundress
*2 pairs of altered shorts (jeans shorts, blue high waisted shorts)
*3 Jersey knit tanks (black, Teal, Cowboy)
*1 Kimono Tee
*2 skirts (Teal, and purple floral)
*2 knit Tees (heat wave and gray top with tie neckline)
*1 knit bamboo tank
*2 cotton cardigans (long sleeved lavender and gold striped, and short sleeved light blue)
*1 boat neck pull over (white and blue striped)
*1 woven cotton tank (anchors)
*1 Pair of leggings
*2 altered button ups (1 long sleeved, 1 short sleeved)
*2 pairs of pj shorts
*1 pair of long athletic type shorts
*1 Romper

I can defiantly see gaps in my me made wardrobe. I need to make some more tops and not just tanks and tees, I need to try making some more structured items. I also have never made any pants, or really made a pair of shorts I've only ever altered pants into shorts. So, along with wearing hand made items daily I am also going to try and make a pair of pants, and a few more tops. I also noticed that I love making dresses, but I seem to be lacking casual sundresses. So I mighty make one or two more of those.

I made all of this!
